Top 5 favorite internet sites:

Or:  ways I waste time during the day (not counting boardofhifive.com)

1.  Facebook – Everyone (including 50+ crowd) is on Facebook.  It has all but deemed Myspace obsolete except to bands and 15 year olds.  Between its IM feature, and news feed, I’m as much in the loop of friends as if I lived next store to them.  And now that the annoying applications aren’t as prevalent as they were for a while, and with fb’s new format, profiles are clean and easy to read. I hated facebook at 1st.  Now I can’t live without it.

2.  Youtube – Like it needs to be restated, but I can’t get over just how much is on Youtube.  And even though there seems to be less copyrighted material than in the past, its still amazing just what you can find.

3.  IMDB – I visit The Internet Movie Database probably 4 or 5 times a day.  Is this because I have an unnatural want to know “oh shoot, what’s that guys name”?  Yes.  But it is also to look at movie times, its tv guide, and to read what others think about the meaning of why something happened in a movie.  It has a nice feature to find common movies between 2 or more actors(after all, it is a database).  I also use their rating system as a pretty good barometer for how good a movie is.

4.  Yelp – Again, a rating system website, but for places of business.  I use this mostly to review a resaurant before I decide to try it out.  And there are always going to be bogus positive and negative reviews (its someone’s friends place, or someone had a bad experience 1 time), but after a certain amount of reviews, the rating gets more credible.  You can also learn to believe certain reviewers more than others, and look through specific places they have reviewed.

5.  Pitchfork media – This is my favorite place to read music reviews.  My music taste doesn’t necessarily match theirs, and I definitely do not always agree with their opinions, but the writing is great, and I use their reviews to find new bands that I don’t know.  The pitchfork experience is much better now that they have pitchfork.tv.  This provides great streaming video of exclusive live performances, interviews, and music videos.  This is usually the 1st website I visit every weekday.

h.m.

All Music Guide – The most complete online music guide that I know of, this site has band bios, album reviews, and discography for nearly any band you can think of.  This is the website that referred to our very own Steve R. as “The Killer Touch”.

*Also, I wanted to make a list of top 5 least favorite, but I really just wanted to list Twitter 5 times.  I don’t like it, and don’t understand its popularity.

  1. I predict that you will come to love Twitter in the same manner as Facebook.

  2. Facebook – that’s not obvious at all Steve. Why not fucking mapquest? Why not fucking Google, because you can find basically anything on it?
